[ORIENTATION] Course Curriculum

The goal of this course is to equip instructors with the need-to-know tools and features of Canvas so they are better prepared to jump-start their course design and delivery. In other words, we want you to rock the Canvas learning platform!

Course Outcomes

Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  • Identify ways to import course-related content via imports tools and files uploads.
  • Identify ways to design course-related content via pages and rich content editor.
  • Identify ways to build course-related activities via assignments, discussions and quizzes.
  • Identify options for course-related organization via homepage layout, course navigation, and modules.
  • Identify assessment options via rubrics, speedgrader and gradebook tools.
  • Identify ways to manage enrollment and instructor online presence via messaging system (inbox), user settings (including profile and notification preferences), and groups.
  • Identify the navigation links in user global dashboard.

Course Modules

The course in broken into the following  FIVE (5) Modules (total of 19 individual very short lessons):

  1. Import and Create Your Content (4 lessons)
  2. Build Your Assignments and Activities (4 lessons)
  3. Organize All That Course Material (3 lessons)
  4. Assess Assignments and Activities (3 lessons)
  5. Manage Your Students and Maintain Course Presence (5 lessons)

Each Module should take about 30-45 minutes to read, review and complete. It is recommended that participants complete the modules in sequential order; however, it is not required.

Links to Canvas Instructor guides, video tutorials, and pro-tips will also be included throughout the modules.

Completion Criteria

Technically, there isn’t one. But if you complete all 5 modules and receive 70% or higher on all 5 module quizzes, then you will have successfully met the course outcomes. Oh, and you'll also get a virtual pat on the back from us! (Trust us, it's so worth it!)
